HTC: There’s no Sensation “death grip” issue

We weren’t the only ones feeling a whole lot of love for the HTC Sensation – and its T-Mobile Sensation 4G cousin – but a report earlier this week suggesting the smartphone suffered “death grip” style signal issues threatened to sour the phone’s flagship reputation. We’ve been chasing HTC for an official statement, and the company has just come through: perhaps unsurprisingly, the official line on whether the Sensation suffers from an antenna issue is “No.”

“Every phone experiences a slight variation in signal strength when the antenna is covered in its entirety by a palm and/or fingers” HTC explained. “However, under normal circumstances this does not affect the performance of the phone.” It’s a similar message to that which Apple used amid the furore over the iPhone 4 antenna, and an issue which, depending on design, affects all handsets.

It’s worth noting that with three Sensation units (one European, two T-Mobile USA) on hand among the SlashGear team, we’re yet to see any signal issues that would differentiate the handset from any other recent smartphone. Meanwhile, Nordic Hardware, the source of the original testing has since suggested that the issue they observed could well be a fault of their single review unit.
